Why a Frosty February Fun Run?
Most races happen in spring and summer, when the weather is more 'dependable' and definitely warmer. But if we take the competition away and add the opportunity to get together with a lot of women, we figure it's a great excuse to get your shoes (and jacket, and gloves, and hat) on and get outside - no matter the weather!
If you're like us, signing up for any athletic event helps to keep you motivated to keep fitness goals that you've set for yourself. Let's be honest: most of the new year's resolutions that we make on January 1st are often forgotten by the end of the month. Put the Snow Queen on your calendar and let it be something to look forward to the whole month long! Get out and walking / running once a week of every day; staying active in the winter months will make you feel better inside and out. Better yet - ask a friend to sign up with you and make it a dual goal that you both can encourage each other toward.
Did you know that February is Women's Heart Health Month? Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, but staying healthy, eating well, and exercising can help lower that number. For more information, please visit The American Heart Association's 'Go Red for Women' page.

Why a "women's 5K"?
It's like a "ladies night out", but during the day and including a 5K! While we certainly won't prohibit any gentleman from racing, this event is geared toward women who are interested in attending a non-competitive, fun, motivational walk / run. It is meant to foster a sense of sisterhood in the sense that women can come together over a shared love of outdoors, exercise, and running to enjoy one another's company. (That is not to say that women are not competitive - we know plenty of super-fast ladies!)
We also hope that this race will appeal to those who want to push themselves (and PR on this nice, flat course!) and also those who have perhaps never attempted a 5K. This event IS timed, but age-group awards are not given out. |
Can we bring strollers?
Who puts on the event?
The event is a volunteer-organized run that is supported and sponsored by Fremont Adventure Recreation. Volunteers give their time at aid stations, brunch, and packet stuffing, so please give them a high-five!
